Performing maintenance on your VW, Audi, or Porsche diesel engine?

There's a very high chance that while working on or near the glow plug connectors you’ll run into at least 1 of 2 issues.

The rubber boots are cracked, brittle, or completely broken. (This is normal as the original boots are made from a thermoset material that degrades over time due to heat cycles and age)

The connectors for the pressure-sensing plugs have cracked. (This is common as their snap features are very thin.) Aftermarket wiring harnesses are available however they require cutting and splicing wires while also discarding the perfectly good factory electrical connectors. 

These retrofit kits provide a cleaner more professional solution! It allows you to remove the failed original connector housings and replace them with upgraded snap-fit housings made from high quality USA MADE automotive grade thermoplastic.

Standard glow plug connector housing installation steps

1. Remove the old connector housing
2. Carefully cut away the damaged plastic using side cutters. Be extremely careful not to nick or cut into the wires shielding! Inspect the wires
3. Check that the wires and shielding are intact. If the shielding or insulation is damaged, wrap the affected area with a thin layer of high-temperature electrical tape (such as 3M Super 33+).
4. Assemble the new connector
5. Place the wire terminal into one of the retrofit housing halves. Insert the snap fitting into the front of the housing half take care not to drop it!
6. Align and snap the second housing half into place.
7. You're done! (And you can reuse the pull handles that some of these TDIs come with)

Pro Assembly Tip: For easier installation, first seat the snap fitting into one housing half. Then partially assemble the two halves by partially engaging only the front clips (see photos). Slide the wire terminal in from the back until it fully seats against the snap fitting, then fully snap the rear of the housing closed. This simple upgrade restores a factory like appearance and provides long term reliability without any splicing or permanent modifications.
